Acceptable Use & Fair Use Policy
Version 1.0Effective: May 2025
Plain English. We sell "unlimited" plans because the overwhelming majority of homes and small businesses can use the internet however they like without ever bumping into a limit. This policy explains the small set of rules that exist to keep the network healthy for everyone — and what we'll do in the rare case someone abuses it.
1. What's allowed
Everything you'd reasonably expect on a home or small-business internet plan:
- Streaming, gaming, video calls, working from home.
- Cloud backups, large downloads, file syncing.
- Hosting personal services (a home media server, a smart-home hub, a small website).
- Connecting any number of devices in your home.
- VPN, Tor (lawful use), and similar privacy tools.
2. What's not allowed
You agree not to use the Service to:
- Break the law — anything illegal under Australian law, including the Telecommunications Act 1997 (Cth), the Spam Act 2003 (Cth), and the Copyright Act 1968 (Cth).
- Send spam — unsolicited bulk email, SMS, or messages.
- Distribute malware — viruses, ransomware, botnets, or other harmful code.
- Hack or intrude — unauthorised access to any computer, network, account, or system.
- Attack networks — denial-of-service attacks, traffic amplification, port scanning of third parties without authorisation.
- Infringe rights — repeated copyright infringement, defamation, harassment, or privacy violations.
- Misuse a residential plan — operate a large-scale business, resell capacity, or run carrier-grade infrastructure on a consumer plan.
- Misrepresent — falsify identity, evade billing, or use the Service in a way that breaches our wholesale agreement with nbn co.
3. "Unlimited" and Fair Use
Our plans have no monthly data cap and no shaping for normal household or small-business use. We may apply Fair Use measures only in the rare situation where a single connection's traffic is so unusual that it materially harms the experience of other customers — for example, sustained 24/7 saturation that looks like commercial resale or a compromised device acting as part of a botnet. In those cases we will:
- Contact you first to understand what's happening;
- Help you secure or reconfigure your service if appropriate;
- Only then, if the issue continues, apply a temporary shape or restriction — never a surprise charge.
4. P2P, Tor, and VPN
Peer-to-peer file sharing, Tor relays/exit nodes, and VPNs are not prohibited by us when used lawfully. We may, however, contact you about a connection that is generating sustained complaints from rights holders or law enforcement.
5. Email and outbound port 25
To protect the network and our reputation we may restrict outbound traffic on common abuse ports (e.g. SMTP port 25 to non-2GoBroadBand servers). Customers running mail servers can request an exemption.
6. If you breach this policy
Depending on the seriousness and pattern of breach, we may:
- Send you a warning and ask you to remedy the issue;
- Temporarily restrict speeds or specific traffic;
- Suspend or terminate the Service (see Section 9 of our Terms and Conditions);
- Report serious matters (illegal content, attacks, fraud) to law enforcement.
7. Reporting abuse
If you believe a 2GoBroadBand customer is breaching this policy — sending spam, hosting malware, or running attacks — please contact us at [email protected] with subject "Abuse". Include logs, headers, or any evidence and we'll investigate.
8. Updates
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be notified to you in writing with at least 30 days' notice in line with Section 12 of our Terms and Conditions.
